I believe that in the Baltimore Catechism they used the words worship and adoration for God and veneration for the saints.

I would be interested in your opinion on the questions asked at the end of the essay. Is the difference in left and right in Roman Catholic liturgy a difference over exclusive focus on adoration?Practical Liturgisthttps://www.blogger.com/profile/03706557009945171203noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1395581436586423386.post-17188732613911724612011-06-05T20:10:46.881-05:002011-06-05T20:10:46.881-05:00I think you're confused. Dulia is used for the honor or reverence due to the Saints (and hyperdulia uniquely for the honor due the Blessed Virgin, which exceeds what is due to all the other Saints). Dulia does not mean worship, except in an archaic use of English where one might address a member of the nobility as "Your Worship". Catholics do not worship the Saints, toward whom we show dulia (though certainly we honor them through the liturgy), and I don't think dulia is used to refer to worship of God.

In regards to the questions at the end, nourishment of the people is effected through the word and above all through the Eucharist, this is because of the Mass itself celebrated according to the rubrics, hopefully reverently, and not what particular kind of "liturgical cocktail" the priest mixes (to use my bishop's phrase). Awe and beauty can certainly dispose us to be more effectively receptive to the grace of the Mass.Eliz Dnoreply@blogger.com
